4 Intelligent Dog Breeds Great for Families With Kids
Finding the right dog for your family doesn’t have to be an arduous process. There are certain dog breeds that are known to be ideal family dogs and especially good around children. These four intelligent dog breeds are among the best for families with kids.
Beagle
Known for being the dog breed of Charlie Brown’s dog Snoopy in the Peanuts cartoons, the beagle is often regarded for its good temperament and playfulness.
Most beagles can also adapt well to living in small apartments or large family homes. If you have other dogs in your home, you can also feel assured in knowing that the beagle generally gets along well with different breeds. Another good quality of beagles is that they’re easy to groom and won’t leave a lot of messes with hair shedding.
Golden Retriever
Golden retrievers socialize well with adults, children and other dogs and are among the most popular breeds in the U.S. These dogs are also full of energy and always eager to get outdoors to play fetch and other fun games. They often use their excellent senses of sight and smell to explore their surroundings, which can create a further sense of adventure for children.
Cavalier
Formally known as the Cavalier King James Spaniel, this dog breed only grows to about 12 to 13 inches in height and weighs around 13 to 18 pounds when fully grown. Cavaliers also come in different colors with some dogs having mostly white fur with brown or black spots while other dogs have fur that’s colored mostly brown or black with a few white or lighter colored spots. These dogs are known to be highly affectionate even with strangers. Cavalier puppies are particularly adorable and great to introduce to children.
Bernese Mountain Dog
Despite its rather large size, this type of dog is still an excellent choice for families with kids because of its docile, nonaggressive nature. Bernese mountain dogs are also fond of the outdoors and require regular exercise for optimal health. Loyalty is another desirable characteristic of the Bernese mountain dog. Having one of these dogs can also give you greater security since they’re known to bark when strangers approach their family’s home.
The right type of dog can blend in well with your family and be great for your children. From their playful nature to their excellent temperaments, any of these dog breeds can enhance a home and be an excellent family addition.
