6 Energy Tips for Busy Moms
As a parent, there will be times when you feel absolutely drained. When you feel like nothing you are doing is enough. When you feel life has beaten you. The mere sight of the dishes in the sink may drive you to tears.
All parents sometimes feel shattered by the weight of responsibility and the sheer amount of things they need to get done in a day. Knowing that you are not alone will hopefully help you feel a bit lighter. And we’ve got six practical tips that will help you feel more energized, so read on.
Move Your Body Every Day
Contrary to what you may believe, exercise boosts your energy levels and your mood. The more regularly you exercise, the better you will start to feel overall.
As a busy and tired mom, you won’t have time for a complicated workout regime and going to the gym every day. Instead, set aside time in your day for a 20-minute workout. You can find tons of programs online, and you can get your sweat on while the kids are napping or doing their homework.
Get a mom friend to join you and go for walks or quick runs, or join a class if you can swing it. Consider this an investment in your and your family’s well-being.
Buy a Better Mattress
The quality of your sleep directly impacts your energy levels. If you are sleeping badly, you will never actually feel rested, and your health will start to deteriorate, making you feel even more tired.
Consider investing in a better mattress to improve your sleep. Look into mattresses without fiberglass, as they are more comfortable and kinder toward your skin. Invest in quality bedding that helps you regulate body temperature better at night so that you don’t wake up because you’re feeling too hot or too cold.
Eat Less Sugar
While sugar gives you an instant rush of energy, when its effects wear off, you will feel more tired than before you ate it.
Instead of relying on sugar to keep you going, try to eat and drink as little of it as possible. Focus on fueling your body with nutrient-dense foods instead, which will keep your blood sugar levels more balanced, and your energy levels higher and more steady.
Drink More Water
Dehydration can make you feel fatigued and could actually be one of the main reasons you’re feeling so tired. Most of us aren’t drinking enough water, and our bodies are certainly feeling the effects.
Set your alarm to go off every half an hour and remind you to drink water. If you feel this would disturb the kids and your usual routine, stick reminders all around your house: on the fridge, the mirrors, and anything else that you often glance at.
Spend Time Outside
Getting outside has numerous benefits for your physical and mental well-being, and it’s a great way to feel more energized and awake. All you need to do is grab the kids and head out to the park or for a walk for an hour or so every day. Try to surround yourself with nature, but if nothing else is available, take a walk around your city block.
Also, try to spend some time outside on your own when you can. Think of it as a walking meditation, and let your thoughts wander.
Do a Speed Run
The last thing you want to do when feeling tired is, well, anything, let alone a bunch of small things. However, there’s often nothing better than tackling a large portion of your to-do list in one swoop to make you feel better and more energized.
First, write down everything that needs to be done that will take you less than five minutes. The list is important because crossing out items one by one will provide the motivation you need and make you feel more accomplished.
Then put your favorite bad music on and blitz through your list as fast as you can. Done is better than perfect, so just get as much ticked off as possible. Once you are done, you’ll find you might just want to tackle something else too.
Wrapping Up
Remember that feeling tired is a normal part of being a mom. Don’t let it wear you down, though. Try implementing these energy-boosting activities and tips into your day.
