Colouring for Adults: Have You Tried It Yet?
Back in the day, the More Time Moms Family Organizer was originally a colouring calendar that let children and parents alike colour-in the black and white pages. They would often send in photos of their favourite monthly pages as coloured works of art. Lately, colouring for adults has become all the rage and grown-ups are now purchasing colouring books in record numbers.
More Time Moms has always believed that colouring helps us to step away from the frantic pace, lets us disconnect from the digital world, and enables us to remain centred and focused on our families. Check out the 2017 edition More Time Moms Colouring Book for free colouring fun and inspirational quotes.
Why have adults started colouring recently? Our lives are hectic and colouring can provide relief from stress and anxiety. It’s a liberating feeling to spend a half an hour or more completely focused on colouring an intricate design or a page full of wildflowers. Famous psychiatrist, Carl Jung, used colouring as a form of art therapy with his patients. Recognized as a relaxation technique to take people’s minds off everything but the task at hand, the activity promotes quietness, wellness and even stimulates the brain. Areas of the brain stimulated when colouring include motor skills, creativity and the senses.
Mandalas or spiritual geometric shapes are popular in adult colouring books, as well as images of pop culture and even “adult only” books. A range of digital colouring apps are also available and great for art on the go. Make the time pass more quickly while riding public transit or sitting in a waiting room, or take a break during a particularly stressful day. Colouring has been known to lower blood pressure as well!
The tools you choose can make a real difference in your colouring experience. Do you prefer old-school coloured pencils, scented gel markers or brush-tipped, felt pens? The smooth feel and quality of your colouring pencils will have a positive effect on your end result.
