How to Get Free Supplies for Your New Baby
If you’re expecting or have a new baby, costs can quickly add up. The good news is that there are some items that you can get for free if you know where to look. The following are five items you may be able to score for free when preparing for your new baby.
Bottles
Whether you’re planning to breastfeed or bottle-feed, it’s a good idea to have some bottles on hand. Sometimes, babies can be picky with taking certain bottles, and getting multiple brands of bottles can quickly become costly. If you create baby registries, most places will provide you with a bag of free baby items. These bags always include at least one bottle. By creating multiple registries, you can easily get a few different brands of bottles to try out.
Diapers
Diapers are one of the things you’ll spend the most on in the early years of parenting. These are a constant need. Babies may have sensitivities to some diapers and others may not fit perfectly which can cause them to leak. Small diaper samples are often included in registry bags. Some companies will even send samples and/or coupons if you call and inquire about their products. Free diapers can also be found at hospitals, doctors’ offices, and through the National Diaper Bank Network for those who qualify.
Breast Pump
Most insurances will provide a free breast pump. If there’s any chance that you may breastfeed, it’s a good idea to take advantage of this offer. They’ll usually give you a few options of high-quality breast pumps. There are usually upgraded options for a reduced price as well.
Books
Reading to your child is a good habit to get into as early as possible. Building up a library can be costly, but also very beneficial to your child. Sign up for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to receive a free age-appropriate book every month for your child. The program runs from birth until your little one turns five. Check here to see if Imagination Library is currently available in your area.
Formula
Baby formula can be a large expense, especially for those who have babies with sensitivities. Coupons can be found in registry bags and through brand-specific rewards programs. Samples can also be obtained through the same rewards programs and some companies will send out samples upon request. This usually requires a phone call. Exclusively sticking to one brand makes it easiest to build up rewards points to get some free baby formula.
Obtaining free baby products may require a little effort and you’ll have to know where to look. However, this can help to save some money and make the newborn phase a little less stressful so you can focus on your sweet little one.
