How to Make Traveling with a Newborn Easier
Traveling is always a bit stressful, especially if you are going to a faraway destination. However, in case you are a parent of a newborn baby and planning a trip, it may seem to you that this will be mission impossible. You probably think there are a million things you need to plan, handle, and have on your mind, both for yourself but especially for your baby. The truth is that the upcoming trip will certainly be a bit stressful, more so if it is your first one with your newborn but it can also be fun and enjoyable. To make traveling easy for everyone, start preparing on time and be creative. We offer you a few tips that will make you realize how easy it can actually be.
1. Pack the Carry-on with Baby’s essentials
We regularly think of carry-ons as an extra space to pack clothes and shoes for our holiday but this shouldn’t be the case when you are traveling with a newborn. Keep your wardrobe light and multifunctional, and dress in the same manner. For example, for your flight, you can opt for a pair of stylish joggers, a cotton tee, and a cute bomber jacket. These are all fashion items that you can wear on several occasions, they are super comfy and quite chic when put together. Pack your suitcase with a similar kind of fashion and bring one fancy look, in case an opportunity pops up for an early dinner at a nice restaurant. Thus, the carry-on is reserved only for extra baby outfits, diapers, wipes, toys, and anything else that the little one might need or want during the trip. This will be of much help to you, as when the baby gets hungry, bored, or a little accident happens, you will have everything within arm’s reach.
Additionally, consider including a Wildbird baby carrier in your essentials; it’s a convenient way to keep your baby close while navigating airports or sightseeing, allowing you to have your hands free for other tasks.
2. Bring Comfort Toys
The best scenario possible is that your little one will sleep throughout the whole flight or car ride. Still, be carefully less optimistic and think in advance about the options that could help them be entertained when they are not sleeping (which can be an hour or two, or the whole period of your flight). Of course, you will play with them and sing lullabies but a few extra toys can be of great help. The best solution is to go with soft toys, such as stuffed animals. Moreover, a cozy blanket can also help in this case, as babies love to play with the ends of a blanket.
3. Breastfeeding and Bottle feeding
The truth is that breastfeeding is much easier when traveling than bottle feeding but there may be different reasons why you have to opt for formula. In case you are breastfeeding, you can pack all the essentials such as wipes and lotions in a small toiletry bag.
On the other hand, there are many more necessities to pack when you are exclusively bottle feeding or combining it with breastfeeding. Bring a separate bag for all the bottles and formula, and keep them together. Make sure that the bottles are already filled with the measured boiled water, so that you can easily mix in the formula. Don’t be shy to ask the flight attendants to heat up the bottles in case your baby is not used to room temperature; they will be glad to help you.
Additionally, get informed before your flight, just to make sure that the traveling restrictions regarding liquids don’t apply to parents traveling with newborns.
To sum up, traveling with your newborn can be a memorable and exciting adventure. Although it will take additional time to plan out your schedule and prepare everything that the little one may need, it will certainly be worth the extra effort.
